The Health Risks Associated With Botox

Everyone wants to have beautiful, youthful skin, but as people age, traditional skin creams seem to do less and less to discourage wrinkles. This is when many turn to Botox as a more effective alternative. Some look to plastic surgeons for the procedure, while others opt to have Botox parties in their homes. Regardless of where the procedure is done, everyone should consider the risks and possible side effects of this form of age defiance.

Mild side effects

Some of the milder side effects of Botox injections include redness, itching, pain and bruising at the injection site. A few others are headaches, nausea and temporary muscle weakness. While these do not seem very bad, there are other potential side effects that are more serious.

Moderate side effects

Moderate symptoms to look for include problems with vision, all over muscle weakness, loss of bladder control and trouble breathing. While some of these side effects may not present themselves initially, calling a doctor immediately is important, whether they begin hours, days or even weeks after the procedure.

Severe side effects

Of the more serious side affects to stay aware of when considering Botox, the most frightening is shortness of breath and chest pain, followed closely by seizures. Others include face and neck pain, skin blistering and eye pain. An allergic reaction is also a potential risk and, depending on the severity of the reaction, can cause itching, hives, trouble breathing and chest tightness.

Anyone chatting with friends about the possibility of a Botox party or considering calling a plastic surgeon, should remember nothing comes without risks.
